The Door to Life Anew

 Profound is our distress,
As we keep sacred vigil ,
Round your bed.

No cry escapes your lips,

  Skin cleaves to bones,
Your body deathly still.

Your soul prepares for flight,

One journey ends,
Another soon begins.

Each says a last goodbye,

I lift your hand and place it,
One more time against my lips.

You meet my gaze

We make a silent pledge
That we will meet again.

Faith the sentinel to Love,

Declares death but a sign,
Abundant Life goes on.

My Beloved,

All sorrow and pain are springboards from which we can fly into Your loving arms.  There we can find meaning and comfort.  Through all that has happened in the recent past, Your most holy will has been accomplished.  Help me to see that no suffering is without purpose nor is it wasted.  May all we have witnessed, transform us and help us to be better able to speak about You.

When we yield to the Holy Spirit in the various circumstances of our life, He is able to speak to us powerfully. In sorrow, heartache and tears we can allow ourselves to be open to His comfort and words of tender wisdom.

Beloved Jesus, You have done all that was necessary to win our salvation  but because we are such weak creatures, You sometimes give us the individual witness of those we love and whom You have chosen, to make visible and tangible what You Yourself have already done so perfectly for us.

Thank You for the gift of Sandy who preached and witnessed to Your agony and passion, so powerfully in the last weeks of her life although she did not say a word.  May every life she touched be transformed so that her living and dying will not be in vain.
